I’ve talked my way into a radio show. I’m hosting a half-hour talk show on Radio Ear Network, starting this Monday, January 30. "The Dead-End Jobs Show," is named for my mystery series. It features the extraordinary secrets of ordinary jobs, offbeat jobs and unusual jobs.
Radio Ear Network (REN) is Internet radio, bringing innovative talk and independent music to more than 6 million listeners around the globe.
Why did I take on more work? Because it’s interesting. Because my show guests tell me things I want to know.
In one of the first "Dead-End Jobs Shows" international theater critic Bill Hirschman explains why a boatload of Brits are crossing the pond to star in American TV shows and movies ("House" anyone?) Why do so many British actors have to lose their native accents? Doesn’t the US have enough unemployed actors to fill those roles?
Yacht chef Victoria Allman will talk about catching a shrimp in Tahiti that’s so deadly it can slice off your fingers. And yes, I said shrimp.
You’ll hear hairstylist Mario Ortega, the inspiration for the Cuban-American stylist in my Dead-End Job mystery "Killer Cuts." And world traveler Kay Gordy will discuss how to visit some one hundred counters on a budget as guest or a host for SERVAS.
Each week, I’ll have a different guest and the show will air three times: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s show is during European prime time and Wednesday’s is East Coast prime time. You can listen to the show on your computers at radioearnetwork.com or download it to your iPod, iPad, Nook, Kindle, Kobo or other e-tablet. The details are on my website. Good luck. This sounds so interesting and looks like fun.

Thanks, Mary and Lil. I'm jittery about the first show, where I had to talk about my own dead-end jobs alone. No host to play off of.
