World Party!
This weekend mystery fans converge in Cleveland, Ohio for Bouchercon, the annual World Mystery Convention. Authors from all over the world will be there to meet readers and talk about everybody's favorite subject, BOOKS!!
I wish I could be there this year. It's so much fun to hang out with friends and meet new ones who share your passion for crime novels and everything about them. The thing I'll miss most - seeing online friends from blogs and e-lists in person. And, of course, there's nothing like hearing a fave author speak - Laurie King and Elizabeth George and Val McDermid and ... too many to mention!
Let's see what the other Femmes are up to this weekend -
ELAINE VIETS is working hard on her next book. "I'm down to the wire for my May hardcover, due in early November."
DEAN JAMES has been working on #4 in his Cat In The Stacks series. He's just finished the copy-edit of OUT OF CIRCULATION, set to debut on January 29th. It follows this year's FILE M FOR MURDER which hit #19 on the NYT bestsellers list.
KRIS NERI sent this note: "Although I can't be at Bouchercon this year, I'll have my fingers crossed for our Femmes Macavity nominees, Charlaine Harris and Dana Cameron.
Also, I wanted to share some good news...my last book, MAGICAL ALIENATION, has been nominated for the New Mexico & Arizona Book Awards in the sci fi/fantasy category! Doing the happy dance."
We are, too, Kris! Great news. Congratulations!
MARCIA TALLEY will be at Bouchercon. She's on the panel, "Judging A Book By Its Cover" on Friday at 4:00pm in the Whitehall Room. She also has an off-site booksigning at 3:45pm at Mystery Mike's.
DONNA ANDREWS - "I'm doing a panel Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Gold Room, MYSTERY SOUTHERN STYLE: Authors Discuss Murder South of the Mason Dixon Line, along with Cathy Pickens,Tina Whittle, Traci Hohenstein, Jaden Terrell, and Kathryn R. Wall."
Donna also has a special honor this year. She will interview the Fan Guest of Honor, Doris Ann Norris, affectionately known as"The 2,000 Year-Old Librarian" and one of the mystery world's biggest supporters.
HANK PHILLIPPI RYAN is on the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" panel along with our Jungle Red Writers friends Lucy Burdette, Rosemary Harris, Rhys Bowen, Deborah Crombie, Hallile Ephron and Julia Spencer-Fleming. Wow, what a line-up!
CHARLAINE HARRIS will be on the "Mystery and the Movies" panel, 10:15am on Friday in Grand Ballroom B. Then on Saturday, she's on the "What A Character" panel at 11:30am in Grand Ballroom A .
TONI L.P. KELNER and DANA CAMERON are on a panel together Friday 1:30-2:20 PM, in the Gold Room, called "OUR INSPIRATIONS: What Books/Plays/Films/TV Shows/Music Made Us The Writers We Are Today." This will be with SJ Rozan, Laurie R. King, Sean Chercover, and Ed Lin.
Also from DANA: "On Thursday evening, my fingers will be crossed at the Opening Ceremonies when the Macavity Awards are announced. Charlaine is nominated for Best Mystery-Related Nonfiction with The Sookie Stackhouse Companion, and I'm up for Best Short Story with "Disarming!"
On Saturday evening, there's more excitement at the Anthony Award Reception: Charlaine's nominated again for Best Critical Nonfiction Work, and I am for Best Short Story."
