Empty nesting. The house stays clean, there is no junk food, I go grocery shopping once a week, I do laundry twice a week, we watch whatever we want on TV, my car is always in the garage and I know how much gas is in the tank.
And we can take trips without worrying about school calendars!
Good luck. Can't wait for Christmas break, can you?

I do appreciate the clean house, Margaret, and gas in the car. And we're busily planning a few trips that won't take place in the popular tourist season. I can't wait for Thanksgiving (we're bringing the girls home at RIDICULOUS airline prices) and then Christmas. Thanks for your comment.

So now, reading what you wrote three weeks ago, how do you feel about that transition?
And rats, I'd hoped you would do my baseboards :-).

Hank Phillippi Ryan

Oh, yeah. How much would parents pay the airlines to have their children come home? The airlines are rubbing their hands with glee....

Laura DiSilverio

Hi, Hank. The transition has been both easier and harder than I was anticipating. It's made me realize how lazy I've gotten about cultivating local friendships, getting together with women I enjoy, getting out to meet new women, and broaden my friendship horizons. I do like the clean house, as previously mentioned, and Tom and I are mixing things up and doing new things, which is fun.

Not the same at all, but my final roommate moved out last month. I do miss those interactions and making friends through my roommate's friends. But it is nice having the place to myself.

(And I know it's not the same as having kids move out at all. But it is a transition I am going through right now.)

Now, to get out and interact with my friends in the area more and make new friends. I'm bad at that, and I've always been bad at that.

Laura DiSilverio

Mark, it sounds similar in some ways. I hope you get out and find some great new friends. I'll try to do the same.
