Snow on the ground this morning! We don't see as much here in Nashville as folks up in the hills north and east of the city. I knew it was predicted for here. But usually it doesn't happen so I quit paying attention to the forecasts.
Growing up in Alabama, I learned to never trust the weatherman. Every winter, he'd geek us up with promises of snows. We'd get up early the next morning and run to the window to see - nothing.
They did get it right once, the Great Snow Storm of 1962, during which my brothers slid down our street on a big cardboard box. It scared me to death. I was five. I cried from the sidelines as they slid by. They hollered and laughed while maneuvering the giant drifts which were at least 1.75 inches high.
Thankfully, whenever it snows, it doesn't really matter how much is on the ground. Even a little bit puts me in a curl-up-and-read-books mood.
Here's what I've been reading lately -
SWEEP IN PEACE by Ilona Andrews was such a treat! I loved it even more than the first in the series, CLEAN SWEEP.
In a sleepy little Texas town, Dina Demille follows in her parents' footsteps by becoming an Innkeeper. That might sound like a boring choice for a career, but the Gertrude Hunt Bed & Breakfast is more special than anyone in this galaxy can even imagine. It's out of the way and gets too few guests to stay solvent much longer. So when Dina is asked if she'd be willing to host a peace summit, she agrees. She knows it won't be easy. The three "countries" sending delegates are from a far-away planet where they've been at war with each other for centuries. Now they must find a way to peace or all die.
Considering one of the three is called the Hope-Crushing Horde, it won't be easy. Dina knows this and must consider many ways to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. And minimize potential damage to the inn. She must make this event a success in order to bring in more business.
So much to love in this book. My favorite new character - the chef! OMG, what fun.
And a few books on being healthier:
EAT FAT, LOSE WEIGHT by Dr. Ann-Louise Gittleman
Easy to understand solutions for common health problems
THE AUTOIMMUNE SOLUTION by Dr. Amy Myers
Lots of good info on healing your gut and detoxing.
HOLISTIC DENTAL CARE by Nadine Artemis
How to take better care of your teeth and gums
So that's me - what have you been reading lately?
What haven't I been reading lately? Yesterday, I finished Classified as Murder by "Miranda" James and the short story collection Edgar Allan Cozy featuring stories by some of the Wicked Cozy Authors. Today I reread the Hardy Boys book The Secret of the Caves. Tomorrow? I start A Disguise to Die For by Diane Vallere.

I have had a hard time settling. I've read a few pages of a number of books in my to be read stack. I reread the Merry Gentry books only to discover yesterday that I am missing the last one. We had 9 inches of snow here yesterday so I will not be going to a library or bookstore today. I have been reading a lot of author blogs this past month which is how I found out that Robin McKinley lost her husband in December. He was a famous and older British author and a widower when they fell in love and she moved to England.

Susan, you got snow like we did this weekend, but I think it was only around 6 or 7 inches in our neighborhood. Which was plenty. :)
