I'm a little late posting today, because for most of the day I thought it was Sunday. We're all having an extended Sunday in this part of the world. No mail delivery. No trash pickup. No school for the kids. Just the snow. Over two feet of it.
The Snow. Normally if you ask me where I live, I say the DC area, or Northern Virginia, or even Reston, if I think you might have heard of it. But today it feels more accurate to say I live in The Snow.
I belong to a neighborhood email list, and most of the traffic all day has been about where the plows have been and where they haven't. Mostly they haven't. If you live on a main street, your world might already be getting back to normal, but if you're on a side road or a cul de sac, the plows probably created a four to six foot wall at the entrance to your road, a wall that will need a front-end loader to remove. You're not going anywhere anytime soon.
I'm kind of in a middle ground. My usual snow shovel guy came early Sunday and cleared a path to my car and then from my car to the street. My car's ready to go. And my street was plowed . . . sort of. At least the snow on the road is not as deep as the snow piled up on either side of it. After a two whole days of sun beating down, I'm finally seeing a little pavement showing through on the previously snow-covered roadway. And if I got to the end of my block, I'd be on a snow emergency route. They will probably have plowed that, right?
We'll see. Not today, thought. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe Wednesday. I'm in no hurry. It's curiously peaceful here in the snow.
I'm not bored. I have work to do--finishing up some revisions. I have my camera, and plenty of birds coming to the feeder to pose for me. I stocked up on goodies before the storm.
Though I am running low on birdseed.
I'll worry about that tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a selection of the pictures I've taken since the snow began.
Beautiful photos, Donna. I prefer to enjoy the snow through your eyes in snow-free Florida.

Nice photos. But you are more than welcome to keep the snow. :)

Your photos are lovely.
Although I have not lived in "The Snow" for thirty years, I remember it well. Wishing you hot chocolate, warm fires, and electricity that stays on.

bluebirds! how much of your bird seed did the squirrels eat?

Nice to know I'm making those in warmer climes nostalgic . . . or would that be guilty?
Margaret, I have a squirrel-resistent feeder, so most of the time they only get what falls when the birds start scuffling.
